Town Clerk

The Town Clerk’s Office serves as the central hub for a variety of administrative functions, ensuring the smooth operation of town affairs and providing essential services to residents. Key responsibilities include:​

  • Records Management: Maintaining and safeguarding official town records, including meeting minutes, ordinances, and resolutions.​
  • Licensing and Permits: Issuing various licenses and permits, such as marriage licenses, dog licenses, and permits for special events.​
  • Tax Collection: Overseeing the billing and collection of town and county property taxes.​
Vital Statistic Records

The Town of Albion maintains birth, death, and marriage records from 1883 to the present. Records before the year 2000 are indexed by date only. Knowing a specific or close date will immensely aid your search. Records from the year 2000 to the present are computerized and can be indexed by date or by name.

Fees

Search and Certified copy is $10.00 each for a Marriage, Birth or Death record. A genealogy search with no certification is $6.00. Please note that proper identification along with the appropriate Application must be presented before receiving said documents. Relevant Applications will be provided to you by the Town Clerk.

Note: No release of information will be given over the phone or Internet, although a search can be initiated through these means.

Marriage Licenses

Anyone wishing to obtain a marriage license should call the Town Clerk’s Office to schedule an appointment. Please note that a marriage license may be obtained at any Town Clerks Office.

Freedom of Information Law (FOIL)

No release of information will be given over the phone or internet. You must fill out an application for public access to records before any record search is performed. You must state specifically what records are requesting. You can obtain this form on our Form’s page. Once the form is submitted, a response will be given within five business days.

Tax Collection

Town of Albion Tax Bills are mailed on December 31st of each year. Payment schedule as follows:

  • Jan 1 – Jan 31: No penalty
  • Feb 1 – Feb 28: 1 % penalty
  • Mar 1 – Mar 31: 2 % penalty
  • Apr 1 – Apr 30: 3 % penalty

Unpaid tax rolls are surrendered to the Orleans County Treasurer on May 1st. Please contact the County Treasurer at (585) 589-5353 for specific amount owing.
